The calculators will be out in Scarbro Caro Bowl tennis after the two top men’s teams finished the round robin on a countback of games against each other and then a countback on points to finish equal first.

In the end the match between Campbell Park and Parnell came down to matches being equal 3-3, sets being the same at 6-6 before a countback of games meant Campbell Park won the contest overall 54 games to 52.

This should mean that as a result of winning that clash Campbell Park finish the competition on top and will play fourth placed team Blockhouse Bay at the Park in the semifinals. Parnell will take on Remuera at Parnell. However the official countbacks will still have to be done in the early parts of the week to confirm the exact placings.

Mark Nielsen and Alistair Hunt started well for Parnell with a great combined effort to beat the Argentine players Gustavo Gomez and Mariano Pettirosso in straight sets, however Adam Thompson and Robbie Cheyne teamed for Campbell Park to defeat Anton Bettink and Steve Downs in the second doubles, also in straight sets.

Nielsen and Hunt continued their good form of the night with convincing wins over Gomez and Thompson respectively, but in the three and four singles Campbell Park were the better team as Pettirosso and Cheyne won their matches over Bettink and Downs in straight sets.

In the match which featured the third and fourth placed sides Remuera came away 5-1 winners over Blockhouse Bay who were without their No1 Artem Sitak.

In other men’s matches Pompallier overcame Cockle Bay on a countback and Royal Oak accounted for Herne Bay 5-1.

The women’s finishing order is almost a replay of the past few years with Parnell the top qualifier for the semis followed by Royal Oak. Kohimarama and Pompallier are third and fourth.

Parnell had a 6-0 victory over Remuera with Franziska Etzel defeating Brittany Teei 6-1 6-1 in the top singles match. Royal Oak were beaten by Pompallier 4-2, however they were without their two top players, Leela Beattie and Emily Fanning.

Pompallier, led by Shelley Bryce will now play their semifinal away to Parnell. While Royal Oak will now play Kohimarama in their semifinal at Royal Oak.

In the other women’s clash Mission Bay finished with a 6-0 win against Glendowie with the Sokolinikova sisters, Marina and Lana scoring a win in singles and doubles.
