The big teams have made it through, as expected into the Scarbro Caro Bowl grand finals this Friday evening after securing relatively easy semifinals victories.

In the men’s competition top qualifier Campbell Park defeated Blockhouse Bay dropping just the bottom doubles in third set tie break. Otherwise it was a straight forward victory as the all-international line up of Gustavo Gomez, Adam Thompson, Pettigrosso and Robbie Cheyne won their singles in straight sets.

Campbell Park will now host Parnell in the men’s final after Parnell accounted for Remuera 6-0.

Parnell will be aching to get revenge on Campbell Park after they lost to them on a games countback in the final round robin and therefore missed the expected home final hosting.

Against Remuera, Rubin Statham, the Kiwi No3 played in the top position and duly defeated Paul Koenke in straight sets. Also winning their singles matches were Mark Nielsen over James Shortall, Alistair Hunt against Martin Colenbrander and Anton Bettink, who was taken to three sets in his win over Aljoscha Jelinek.

When Parnell and Campbell Park clashed in the final round robin Parnell were without Statham and had Nielsen fill in admirably in the top spot and win. The doubles which will start the finals first could be the vital matches.

The women’s semis had Parnell easily dispatch Pompallier in all bar one of the games. The top singles had German Franziska Etzel battle to beat former international Shelley Bryce in three sets. Otherwise it was all easy wins for Pavlina Nola, Rewa Harriman and Libby Scott in singles.

Parnell will now host the final against Royal Oak who will be trying to avoid being a runner-up once again. In their semifinal Royal Oak won 4-2 over Kohimarama dropping the second singles as Emily Fanning lost to Briar Preston while Preston and Danielle Feneridis also won the bottom doubles.

Canterbury 16-year-old Leela Beattie defeated Kairangi Vano in straight sets, Nicola Kaiwai beat Luci Barlow and Rachel Dive had a 2-6 6-4 6-2 win over Danielle Feneridis  in the number four singles.

Earlier in the season Parnell defeated Royal Oak in round robin play, however the Oak were missing their No2 Fanning, although she will be up against former top 100 ranked player, Nola in the final.
