From 8 July residents are encouraged to have their say on a draft local plan which will be the blueprint for future initiatives and community activities in Papakura.

The Papakura Local Board has prepared its draft plan for the next three years and beyond, in large part shaped by community feedback earlier this year.

Its draft plan will be launched on 6 July, and residents now have a further chance to comment during the formal submission process from 8 July to 8 August.

The Papakura Local Board is holding a public meeting on the draft plan to enable residents to share their thoughts face-to-face and discuss with board members. Additional meetings are being set up with tangata whenua.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 13 July (6.30-7.45pm) at Accent Point (foyer by library), 28 East St.

From 4 July, a summary of the Papakura Local Board Plan will be distributed to every household, including a submission form. Submissions can also be made online via www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/haveyoursay

Some of the priorities identified in the Pakakura Local Board’s draft plan include:

  • Providing local opportunities to gain training, jobs and careers
  • Invigorating Papakura’s economy, including the development of a long-term economic development plan for the area
  • Advocacy for improved transport infrastructure
  • Good and affordable community services and facilities, such as parks, libraries and sportsfields.

Board chair John Robinson encourages locals to read the draft plan and provide feedback by completing a submission.

“This is the very first local board plan put together for our new Papakura Local Board, so it provides a great opportunity for all interested parties to be heard.

“Like the rest of the community, we want to help provide Papakura with the foundation for a bright future. There is definitely still scope for individuals and groups to make a difference through their submissions, before we finalise the plan in October.”
