Police are looking for a Porirua man who has been missing for several hours.

Police Search and Rescue Acting Sergeant Anthony Harmer says Police have concerns for the wellbeing and safety of 26 year old William Campbell.

"Given the extreme weather conditions we are currently facing, we have launched a search and rescue operation and Land SAR volunteers have joined Police Search and Rescue staff to search an area around the Kenepuru Hospital grounds, where William Campbell was last seen at 9am this morning."

Police urge any of Mr Campbell's friends and associates to contact Police if they have seen or heard from him throughout the course of the day or those who may have information as to his whereabouts.

"We also urge anyone braving the elements and walking or jogging through the Kenepuru Hospital grounds and the surrounding areas to contact Police with any information as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information can contact 11 or phone Porirua Police Station on (04) 238 1400.
