Wairarapa Police are continuing to investigate an incident in Masterton involving a large group of people in the early hours of Sunday morning which left three with injuries, including stab wounds.

Detective Sergeant Rob Rackliff of the Wairarapa CIB says Police were called to an altercation between a group of about 20 people at about 1:15am on Sunday morning, on the corner of Oban and Church Streets.

"Several gang members were amongst this group and as a result of the incident, two men, aged 18 and 23 years old received stab wounds. These injuries are not life threatening. A 25 year old female also received a minor injury."

Detective Sergeant Rackliff says Police are also investigating an incident last night which may be connected to Sunday morning's altercation.

"About 11:40pm last night, Police were called to a Church Street house, where three Molotov cocktails had been thrown at the house, causing moderate damage. Luckily noone was inside the address at the time.”

"Although no one received life threatening injuries as a result of these two incidents, they both had the potential to result in someone's death, which is of very serious concern to Police."

He says, "Police will continue to investigate this type of offending very robustly and take a zero tolerance when dealing with anyone found to be involved."

Anyone with any information should contact the Wairarapa Police on (06) 3700 330 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
