Organisers of the Ruapehu Cycle Classic are pleased to announce that the Child Cancer Foundation will be the event’s official charity for 2012.

The Child Cancer Foundation provides support to children with cancer and their families. At any one time their range of services - including emotional, practical and financial support - will help over 900 families across New Zealand.

Now in its sixth year, the Ruapehu Cycle Classic brings three awesome days of pedal power to the Central Plateau from 10 – 12 February 2012! Riders can choose from three events or, for those with energy to burn, challenge themselves to the weekend tour and do them all.

The weekend kicks off with a real crowd pleaser, the Friday night Criterium around the streets of Ohakune. With three grades available it’s a great chance to watch some top-class racing or be part of the action yourself.

Saturday’s traditional Ruapehu Cycle Challenge is open to teams and individuals, and riders can now choose between 80kms or 160kms of pure cycling pleasure.

The weekend finishes with a Race to the Sky. This gruelling 17 kilometre road climb from the base of the Ohakune Mountain road to the car park of Turoa ski field will really test the legs but there’s a chance to take in some of New Zealand’s most majestic scenery along the way.
