<p>Police have confirmed two people are dead after a car plunged down a cliff near the Homer Tunnel in Fiordland.</p> <p>Senior Sergeant Dave Raynes, of Invercargill, said emergency services were called shortly before 7pm tonight after the vehicle, a Subaru Forrester, fell about 5 metres over the side of a cliff.</p> <p>The incident happened on the Milford side of the tunnel, about 1km down the Milford Rd, he said.</p> <p>Two people were killed and a third person was injured, he said.</p> <p>At this stage there was no indication what may have caused the crash, and details about the occupants of the vehicles, including their nationalities, were unknown, he said.</p> <p>Two fire crews, St John, police, Department of Conservation workers and two doctors were at the scene working to rescue the injured person and recover the bodies of the two dead before darkness fell, he said.</p> <p>The Police Serious Crash unit will be conducting a scene examination tomorrow morning.</p>
