The bodies of all 11 victims in Saturday's fatal Carterton hot air balloon crash have now been removed from the scene.

Wairarapa Area Commander Inspector Brent Register says the last four bodies were removed from the scene a short time ago.

"A scene examination in Somerset Road will continue over the coming days. The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) process is underway and will take some time to complete."

The Police are working at the direction of the Coroner and in conjunction with the Transport Accident Investigation Commission team, as it is the Commission which will determine the causes of the accident.

Inspector Register says Police and other agencies have met with families again this morning to keep them abreast of the investigations currently underway.

"Our thoughts continue to be with the families of the deceased as they continue to come to terms with this tragic accident on Saturday, which took the lives of their loved ones. We will continue to support these families as best we can over the coming days, weeks and months."

Inspector Register says given Saturday's tragic crash is now the subject of a Coronial inquiry, Police are not in a position to make any further comments to media at this time.
