MASTERTON

A 37 year old Masterton man is in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital with head injuries following a gang-related incident over the weekend.

Officer in charge of the Wairarapa CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Hansen says on Saturday, the 37 year old man was assaulted and left unconscious on the driveway of a Hessey Street property at about 5.50pm.

“He was taken by ambulance to Masterton Hospital and later airlifted to Wellington Hospital where he remains in a serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit.”

D/S/S Hansen says at 3.20pm yesterday afternoon, a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of a Hessey Street flat.

“Fortunately no one was home at the time and the Molotov cocktail did not catch fire. We suspect this is related to the assault the previous day.”

Police are following positive leads with respect to both incidents but are still interested to hear from anyone who can provide any assistance regarding these attacks.

"We are particularly interested in the movements of a blue Holden Berlina motor vehicle, registration OE5555, both prior to and at the time of the arson attack.”

Anyone with any information should contact Wairarapa Police on (06) 370 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Any information provided will be treated in confidence if required.
