Charges laid after fatal Otira truck crash

West Coast Police have laid charges in relation to a fatal truck crash which happened on the Otira Highway on 22 June 2011.

Pikiora Lewis Jones, 34, of Napier, was killed when the truck he was driving plunged 24 metres off the road to the edge of the Otira River.

Mr Jones was driving between Arthur's Pass and the West Coast on a steep, narrow stretch of the highway.

Two men have been jointly charged with carelessly operating a vehicle causing death.

They are to appear in the Greymouth District Court on 14 February 2012.
