A 20 year old Whitby man has appeared in the Porirua District Court charged in connection to a serious incident in the weekend which left a man with stab wounds.

Detective Shane Carter of the Porirua CIB says about 6:30am on Sunday morning, a 21 year old man was allegedly attacked with two 30 centimetre-long knives several times, at an address in Azimuth Place, Whitby.

"The attack left the victim requiring hospital treatment for injuries to his head, neck, arms and leg. He has since been discharged."

Detective Carter says the 20 year old accused appeared in the Porirua District Court yesterday, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and has been remanded on bail with strict conditions until later this month.

"Police arrived quickly at the scene, preventing any further injuries from occurring. A Taser was presented at the accused, however it was not deployed. The outcome could have been a lot worse had Police not attended when they did."

Both parties involved were known to each other.
