Doubles Success For Erakovic & Good Wins For Tearney - senton behalf of Tennis NZ

There’s been some good success for Kiwi tennis players in the past 24 hours with Marina Erakovic and her British doubles partner, Heather Watson winning their way into the semifinals of the US$220,000 WTA Texas Open in Dallas.

They defeated the American pair of Jennifer Elie and Asia Muhammed 6-2 6-0 in the quarterfinals and now play top seeded Czech pair Iveta Bensova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova for a place in the final.

Meanwhile at the US$10,000 Futures in Guayaquil,  Ecuador, Finn Tearney has reached the quarterfinals of singles and doubles. 

Tearney won through qualifying and then defeated local wildcard Andres Cabezas 6-0 6-2 in the first round before accounting fourth seed Sergio Galdos of Peru ranked at 597 in the world in straight sets 7-6(8) 6-1.

In the quarterfinals the Wellington 21-year-old who attends Pepperdine University in Malibu will play eighth seed Roberto Quiroz(Ecuador) in the quarterfinals.

In doubles Tearney and his University team mate, Alex Llompart(Puerto Rico) defeated the third seeded Argentine team Santiago Maccio and Gustavo Sterin 6-2 6-0 in the first round.

Tearney will earn an ATP singles and doubles ranking as a result of his performances so far.
