A fire at Hickford Park that was probably deliberately lit has damaged a stand of pine trees.

About 50m2 of 10-year-old pines were burnt in the fire, which broke out on Monday (8 October) morning.

“There are a few trees that we’ll have to remove because they are a health and safety risk now,” says Manager Parks Programme Steve McGill.

“We’ll leave the rest of the area to regenerate on its own.”

The badly damaged trees will be removed by the end of the week.

If anyone saw suspicious activity in Hickford Park on Monday morning, please get in touch with the police.
