NZ On Air is announcing the first five projects to receive funding under the new Digital Media Fund Ignite.

There has been considerable interest in DMF Ignite with 62 applications coming in for this funding round.

DMF Ignite is a small project fund supprting creative digital media ideas for defined audiences.  In this round $200,000 was made available for a number of projects, at a maximum of $45,000 each.

NZ On Air looked for intriguing, engaging projects, offered by competent teams, that clrealy targetted their idea to a particular audience.

Hook Ups will take a satirical look at both the music industry and small town politics. Based on an earlier Zine series, animated episodes will be available on the nzherald.co.nz platform and an iOS app through which users can interact to create soundtracks.

Kiwi ABC will be an interactive alphabet iPhone app with a Kiwiana theme. The app will make learning fun for young children through the use of beautiful illustrations, engaging animations and playful sound effects.

The Let's Get Inventin' App will be an interactive iPad application and website that actively encourages children's curiosity and imaginations.  The project will foster an online community of inventors.

Woodville will be a six-episode online comedy about small town New Zealand. Viewers will follow different members of Hawke's Bay's Woodville community as they rally together against a threat to their rural splendour.

The Big Sing was a multi-camera webcast of The Big Sing 2012 National Finale of the NZ Choral Federation Secondary Schools' Choir Festivals. Building on the success of The Big Sing 2011, this project took the popular competition to a nationwide audience.
