How Hutt Valley residents feel about alcohol and drinking behaviours will be canvassed in a survey kicking off later this week.

Hutt City and Upper Hutt City councils are jointly running the survey, which will ask a range of questions around alcohol availability and consumption, liquor licensing and bans, and the social consequences of alcohol use.

Results from the survey will help the two councils develop a draft Local Alcohol Plan (LAP) to deal with liquor licensing matters. The Alcohol Reform Bill currently going through Parliament provides local authorities with powers to control the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol, and the Hutt Valley LAP will determine the number, location and hours of sale for liquor premises.

The survey starts later this week and runs until 14 December.
