This article discusses the things you should consider when choosing your maternity photography studio in Auckland.

Once you have decided upon your preferred Auckland maternity photographer, you should begin planning your session well in advance as there are a wide range of considerations you should address prior to your shoot.

When sorting through your wardrobe and deciding on what outfits to bring, consider that you are looking for items that will accentuate your figure.  Therefore, tightly fitting outfits that highlight your shape are perfect.  Overly loose clothing will simply hide your figure and lessen the effect of your maternity portraits.  You should also consider the creative use of fabrics and silks, for example, to add yet another dimension to your photos.

When considering colours for your preferred outfits, it is more important to select these based on what makes you feel the most comfortable and those that most flatter your skin tones.  Confidence goes a long way in portraiture, so whatever tones that make you feel your best is the right choice!

The best time during your pregnancy to book your photo shoot is around the 32-week mark.  This ensures that you have as much shape as possible whilst not leaving it too late.  Depending on how your pregnancy progresses, you may wish to have your photo shoot completed sooner if your shape develops more quickly.  Likewise, some ladies book like to capture the changes throughout the course of their pregnancy through multiple photo shoots.

Hair and makeup should also be considered beforehand.  Do not to use an glossy makeups as the studio lights will reflect from this and create hotspots on your skin.  Any unwanted blemishes you experience on the day can be removed thanks to modern retouching technology.

Ensure your outfits are freshly washed and ironed to ensure a professional look to your portraits.  Accessories, including shoes and jewellery can also add a nice touch to your portraits.  Likewise, any other inclusions such as ultrasound pictures and any pre-purchased baby outfits can be included too.  Feel free to bring these and any other items to your session and your photographer can discuss how best to include these items.

If you have any specific ideas in mind for your maternity photo shoot, you should discuss these in advance to ensure that both you and your photographer are on the same page during your maternity photo shoot.  You may wish to find your own poses and ideas too, which can provide a platform from which to envision and create your own memorable portraits!
