With access to data from two credit checking bureaus, 90% of debts lodged with functioning telephone numbers are connected to repayment plans within just seven days. “Centrix and Veda are two of New Zealand’s largest credit bureaus and if we run a debtor’s name through both systems, we can discover all sorts of leads,” TPS Credit Control General Manager Josh Martin says.

Those leads include previous addresses, alternative names, default information and credit inquiries, and as Martin says, “Having access to both Centrix and Veda gives the TPS Credit Control team a big advantage when trying to locate a debtor. What most people don’t know is that regardless of whether you run a credit check through Centrix or through Veda, you are only getting part of that person’s credit report.”

Background checking databases also come in handy. Social media profiles, media stories, court and tribunal orders and gazette and insolvency reports can all be used to locate a debtor. “It’s this breadth of data that drives our service,” Martin says. “And with a dedicated team we’re confident that we can get your money back.”

References, from friends and family, also come in handy when locating a debtor.

“That’s why it’s important to get as much information as possible when you begin a tenancy,” Martin says. “We would recommend that you ask for at least three references on a tenancy application.”

TPS Credit Control is New Zealand’s largest tenancy focused debt collection company. They collect more tenancy debt than any other debt collection company, connecting over 2400 voluntary repayment plans and over 3,000 attachment orders each year.
