Plug spinner is used by locksmiths to re-align pins to their respective positions in a situation where the locks have been tampered with. It’s an essential tool of Locksmiths because it can also be used after the locksmith has worked with the lock for repair or maintenance reasons. It allows the locksmiths to lift and move the key plug.

4. Rake pick

This is the favorite among all other essential tools for locksmith because it’s the easiest tool to manipulate. Rake pick has mechanism that look like a rake which, when rapidly run over any sheer line, enables a torsion wrench to open the lock.

5. Slim Jim

Also called Slim Shim, another essential tool of Locksmiths because it has a flat spring steel that has a notch at its bottom portion. Slim Shim is used to open automobile doors without using keys or lock pick by sliding-in and stripping to the notch at the bottom of the tool to catch levers and rods that operates the doors of cars mostly and cause it to open.

6. Torsion wrench

It is the most important tool that every locksmith must have. This is a flat, L-shaped steel tool that locksmith often use in conjunction with other tools. It is used to hold the spins inside the lock while applying the appropriate pressure touching the shear-line to release the lock. They are available in three types namely: light, medium and rigid. These types are used in all kinds of situations.

The above tools are just some of the essential tools of Locksmiths that every locksmith should own. For other complicated problems such as those involving electronic and multi-level security, locksmith can choose to use specialized and computerized tools which normally have scanners and digit features that help to figure out and manipulate complicated locks. Such tools do not allow the locksmith to win-over the locks but to create a customized security system.
