The rate of construction in New Zealand is still increasing – with non-residential building consents totalling $6.5 billion, a 6.1% increase in the year ended October 2017 compared to last year. With summer already upon the country, taking advantage of the warmer months is key to efficient and cost-effective construction work.

This is especially applicable to concrete construction, as it is dependent on environmental conditions. To assist with further productivity, Fletcher Reinforcing offers full design service and distribution of Max Frank Stremaform – ideal lost formwork systems for producing quality joints in reinforced concrete.

Stremaform consists of expanded metal mesh, welded between steel bars, and is placed between the reinforcement bars to provide a rough surface to the finished concrete. The rough surface forms an indented structure with the second concrete pour so the working joint transfers shear forces identical to those obtained with monolithic concrete. This surface is also equivalent to or better than a surface produced by conventional scabbling.

Stremaform is proven to allow a higher speed of concrete pour compared to traditional methods, speeding up the construction process. It is mainly used for concrete construction joints and can be used for all joint sizes.

Cole Meiring, Project Engineer for Wellington’s NZ Memorial Park had this to say about Stremaform’s performance: “The joint finish allows us to fix steel continually, without any remedial work to the concrete or waiting for formwork to be removed. Stremaform® is a great product which we will be looking at using on future projects.”

Fletcher Reinforcing design and produce Max Frank Stremaform elements and steel mesh NZ wide. They are shaped to the required size in factories, ready for quick on-site installation in conformity with supplied installation layouts. This process reduces assembly time, and requires no formwork removal.
