The Great Christmas Giveback Returns at Stardome

Christmas can be a stressful time of year, not only for individuals and families, but also for the charitable organisations that support those in need. For the fourth year, Stardome has connected with the Auckland City Mission and SPCA Auckland, inviting customers to see a planetarium show at a discounted rate by making a donation to these worthy charities.

Over three years Stardome has delivered more than 600 items, donated by Stardome customers. Embracing the spirit of giving, Stardome is running the campaign again. David Houldsworth, Stardome CEO says, “In previous years, we have been overwhelmed by the response from our customers in supporting the Auckland SPCA and Auckland City Mission. It is our hope that Aucklanders get behind this initiative again and enjoy a planetarium show while spreading some Christmas joy to those in need.”

Christmas at SPCA Auckland, where they have thousands of cute, fluffy, furry mouths to feed, is a particularly busy time of the year. As part of the well-known national charity, SPCA Auckland rescues animals in trouble and provides vital medical care, love and shelter. This year-round effort sees around 15,000 animals getting the second chance they deserve.

The Auckland City Mission is an established charity, helping those in need year-round since 1920. While many of us enjoy a holiday season of good food, gifts and quality time with family, the City Mission addresses the needs of those that don’t have that Christmas experience. Last year the City Mission distributed food parcels, 12,753 food parcels and 4,000 of these were given out in December alone.

“We’re thrilled that Stardome is continuing their support of the Auckland City Mission Christmas Appeal for a fourth year. The Mission will help around 4,000 families throughout December, providing them with food and presents so they can celebrate the holidays. We are only able to assist these families because of the wonderful generosity of the kind Aucklanders who support our appeal.
