Three65 Talk About Installing Spouting Safely While Working at Height

For over 26 years Three65 Spouting has been installing Spouting, Fascia and other Rainwater Goods safely. To do this they use a range of ‘working at height’ equipment from ladders, cherry pickers to full scaffold.

Over the years their use of ladders has reduced, in conjunction with changes to Health and Safety legislation. While they can safely use a well maintained ladder for single level applications where the ground is even, once installation is required above single level then they start to use a range of solutions, but predominantly scaffold

One system they don’t use is harnesses as they are not practical when working below the roof edge (as they do) and when there is a safer alternative then from a health and safety perspective that’s the path you should take.

When using scaffold ideally they need it set at 1.5 to 2m below the line of spouting, which enables them to work at an ideal height safely and quickly. If they are installing Leafguard then they need the scaffold to be higher (1.2m below the spouting) as they install fixings into the top of the spouting.

Three65 Spouting have seen over time people’s attitudes to scaffold change from being a grudge purchase, to understanding that scaffold not only makes it safer for everyone but it can speed up the renovation or build, and that ultimately saves the customer money.

Scissor lifts are another height access machine they use and while they are not suitable for doing large volumes of spouting they are a lower cost alternative to scaffold for small sections of spouting in ‘tricky to reach’ areas. However, they do require a large foot print to extend the boom arms so access is often an issue.
