MenzShed New Zealand, a registered charity, has launched a Give-A-Little page to ask Kiwis for help to fund the completion of their new shed in Tawa, Wellington.

The Tawa shed is currently undergoing construction work with the help of their principal sponsor, Smartway Builders. They are a team of licensed Wellington builders that specialise in house renovation and house extensions, undertaking the Tawa MenzShed building reconstruction as their latest community project. Recently, they laid a new level raised floor, and are steadily making progress on the reconstruction of the Tawa MenzShed building.

To get the building up to scratch and ready to use, a number of internal and external work still needs to be done. This includes new timber and plywood flooring, new internal partition walls and ceilings, meeting health and safety requirements, toilet facilities, and internal fitouts.

The Give-A-Little page, titled “Help Tawa MenzShed Get Off The Ground”, has received donations from 9 generous donors of the Tawa and NZ community (at the time of writing), totalling $415 NZD. As it is an open goal page, any amount and financial assistance is welcome to help get the new Tawa MenzShed up and running for the community to regularly and safely use.

MenzShed is a charity that brings men and women together in one community space to share skills and work on practical wood-working and metal-working tasks, whether that’s individually or as a group. Different sheds all over New Zealand undertake collective community projects such as building playgrounds for pre-school centres, building planter boxes, and so on.

MenzShed Tawa was established following a public meeting in October 2016. Shortly thereafter they obtained access to approximately 200 square metres of space at the Wellington Rural Fire Force Building in Tawa on 86 Oxford St, Tawa, Wellington, courtesy of the Wellington City Council.
