With these chillier nights, we start to think about hopping in the the spa pool after work, as it is so nice to sit in a warm spa pool looking out at a starry, cool night. However, we must all be aware that  spa pool maintenance is vital. A well maintained spa pool can provide hours of enjoyment, but if not properly looked after, it can become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria.

The Pool Warehouse is a wholesale importer and distributer of quality spa pool products based in Wellington, New Zealand, and deliver spa pools and spa pool products nationwide, at wholesale prices,  to everyone. Ozone filtration is also standard in their spa pools, which will save you around 80% in spa pool sanitisation costs.  It’s very important to keep your NZSpa pool clean and free of harmful bacteria, and the ozone system operates at all times to keep you spa pool cleaner for longer.

Commercially available disinfectants suitable for private spa pools should be used. Chlorine and bromine are the most common. Other methods include ozone, ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and ionising systems. Ideally, disinfection systems should use automatic dosing and filtration, although manual dosing is commonly used for private spa pools. When using manual dosing, it is important to check the pump and filter system daily to ensure they are clean and working correctly.

When a spa pool is not in use, a device such as a floating immersion dispense should be used to disinfect the spa pool water at all times. Spa pool water should be tested prior to use and at least three times per week, using a reliable spa pool water test kit. At a minimum, each test should include a measure of disinfectant concentration, pH and alkalinity.

It is very important that the pump lint-pot and filter are cleaned regularly to ensure they do not become a source of contamination. If a sand filter is used, the water used to backwash (rinse) the filter must always be disposed to sewer.

Outdoor spas should be fitted with covers to prevent leaves, dirt, pollen and insects entering the water.

Maintaining your spa pool is obviously the way to go to give you endless happy hours, so for more information on spa pools, portable spas and Wellington spa pools please visit the website at http://portablespa.co.nz .
