Onfire & CHAPTER2 Bikes Win Gold Pin Award At 2018 Best Awards

Design agency Onfire received a Gold Pin Award along with CHAPTER2 Bikes at the 2018 Best Awards recently. The team won in the Consumer Product category for the new Rere bike.

The judges commented: “The level of design resolution of this light weight aerodynamic carbon fibre frame captured the judge’s attention with its uncompromising engineering and aerodynamic form. The reversible seat post, integrated fork crown, hidden seat clamp and direct mounted brakes integrated by a desirable aesthetic form confirmed its Gold Pin status.”

The Gold Pin is coveted under each category as best in category. Presented by The Designers Institute of New Zealand, The Best Design Awards is an annual showcase of excellence in graphic, spatial, product, interactive and motion design along with four boutique awards.

When designer, architect and bike racer Mike Pryde wanted to launch a new, technically advanced bike frame online, he needed to build the Chapter2 brand from the ground up.

To complement the bike frame’s clean lines and technically advanced construction, Onfire’s restrained graphics and “The road less travelled” brand story was rolled out across packaging, apparel, ecommerce website, stationery as well as the frames themselves.

The campaign has been extremely successful as the first year sales target was reached within a matter of months and demand has outstripped supply. In 2017 Chapter2 was awarded a bronze in the New Zealand Best Awards Consumer category as well as a finalist in the ISPO Brandnew Awards.

“Working with Sam and his team at Onfire was an inspiring experience. They clearly understood the brief and what we were trying to achieve with Chapter2 which was often difficult to explain or visualise.

Within days of our initial meeting we had the basis of a new brand and from there their creative team were able to develop the whole brand DNA, Brand ID and Graphic Design on the product and packaging.

The Chapter2 website was to form a large part of the overall project and the fact that we were building a global brand from NZ made the project complex. Without their expertise the website would not have been completed on time and to the technical and visual quality we wanted,” says Mike Pryde, Chapter2 Bikes.
