Keystone has been involved in the construction of Adelaide’s latest state-of-the-art high school - Adelaide Botanic High School. It has supplied a huge range of materials, including solid and perforated plywood, compressed fibre cement, standard and colour-through MDF panels as well as balsa plywood with MDF skins for the project.

On Facebook Keystone said: “We are excited to have been part of this massive project, working with architects Cox Architecture & Design and DesignInc Adelaide, builders Landlease and installers Ceiling & Wall Contractors and John Reuther Cabinet Makers.”

Keystone supply architects, interior designers and builders with linings and acoustic solutions for interior walls, ceilings, exterior facades and soffits

Due to be opened in early 2019, Adelaide’s latest state-of-the-art high school has been in development since 2015.  DesignInc, in collaboration with Cox Architecture, has designed South Australia’s first vertical school. Located in the CBD, Adelaide Botanic High School is located on Frome Road in close proximity to University of South Australia, The University of Adelaide, Adelaide Zoo and the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

For 1,250 secondary school students, the buildings are designed with flexible learning areas to enable an integrated curriculum that helps prepare them for the future. The new school’s heart will be a light-filled atrium connecting the adapted Reid Building (six storeys) to a new seven-storey building as an active atrium. Environmental design will minimise energy and water use, in support of the city’s Adelaide to Zero Carbon Challenge. It is targeting a 5 Green Star certification.

The Adelaide Botanic High School’s name reflects its specialist health and sciences program. Purpose-designed laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art science and design technology to support the STEM focus (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), preparing students to be future innovators.

The key facilities include food technology kitchens, library and research centre, maker spaces (design, media studies, art), indoor gymnasium, outside learning and recreation spaces, music and drama learning and practice spaces, cafeteria with outdoor terrace and basement parking for 170 bicycles.

In a Facebook post DesignInc said: “We at DesignInc are delighted to celebrate the completion of Adelaide Botanic High School with the students, staff, State, and everyone involved in the planning, design and construction of this wonderful school. ⠀

“We want to thank everyone on our team for the dedication they have shown throughout the project. To work with our colleagues at Cox Architecture on South Australia’s first vertical high school has been a great opportunity and we are grateful for the faith placed in us by the State of South Australia. To contribute in such a significant way to the public life of our city is what all architectural practices hope and work for.”
