New Zealand Karen Li table tennis competitor has put herself in a position to be selected for the Beijing Olympics after she dominated the Olympic qualifying table tennis tournament held in New Caledonia.

Displaying consistently high class table tennis she dropped just one set in post section play and was untroubled in the winning of the title.

She defeated fellow New Zealand player Sun Yang in the quarter final 4-0, followed by a 4-1 victory over Australia’s Stephanie Sang in the semis.

In the final Li proved too strong for Australian No1 Miao Miao 11-9, 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 to qualify from the Oceania region for Beijing. Her selection is still subject to NZOC selection.

Li has been training hard in China since the World Championships last month for this qualification event and intends to return to China to train for the Olympics.
