ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY: OVER 10 MILLION PATRONS A YEAR

In the year to June 09 more than 10.2 million people (ticketed and non-ticketed) visited entertainment venues throughout the country equating to an average of 2.5 visits per New Zealander.

The Entertainment Venues Association NZ (EVANZ) comprising 78 member venues owned and operated by local authorities, trusts, companies and incorporated societies has released collated figures for the first time.

President Dale Henderson says “it is important to recognise the contribution venues make to their local communities socially and economically.

The venues in the survey employ over 2,500 employees on a fulltime, part time and casual basis paying out in excess of $40 million in wages and salaries.

“It’s encouraging to put a figure on the number of staff employed by the venues as this impacts on local economies in terms of goods and services and taxes therefore EVANZ will continue to collate figures from members annually to achieve this.” says Henderson.

EVANZ is a national association representing venues in NZ – theatres, event centres/outdoor stadia, community halls and conference centres.
