The Committee is all organized, the cups and trophies are polished and the dancers are practicing hard at last minute dance lessons for the 95th Annual Festival of Dance to be held from 8.30 a.m. Saturday 26th to Midday Wednesday 20th September. With approximately 300 dancers involved of which more than half are from Canterbury, Nelson, Motueka, Westport and Hokitika.

There will be continuous dancing during the day from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. with a tea break and evening sessions from 7 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Dancing ranges from classical ballet, tap, to modern dance including hip hop. Dancers ages range from 4 years to 25 years including a few older ones in the entertainment section on Tuesday night.

Our two judges from Wellington are excited with the huge number of entries received this year and are looking forward to coming.

We welcome the public to come watch and support the dancers and enjoy some extremely polished dance routines and entertainment.

Night sessions include team events as well as 6 championships. Saturday morning starts with the novice classes which are for children who have never won a section before. This gives them a warm up before they re dance their routine in their age class.

All section winners receive medals and a trophy to hold for 1 year. This year we are pleased to have local trophies donated for the local dancer who receives the highest mark in most classes.
