A pink ‘greenhouse’ that has travelled the country to raise money for breast cancer research has amassed more than $2000 for the cause.

Greenhouse specialists, Winter Gardenz, came up with the idea of auctioning the house on TradeMe during a national tour as a way to raise awareness of the disease and donate to the cause.

“I witnessed the emotional toll and physical impact breast cancer can have on people when the mother of a good friend was diagnosed,” says Winter Gardenz spokesperson, Michelle Herrick.

“By learning about self breast exams and early detection, many women can catch it early and avoid the impact it has on themselves and their families.”

The tour began in Kumeu in late September and had stops in Taranaki, Gisborne and Wellington before concluding at the Christchurch Royal Show on November 10.

“We saw a large number of bids over the four week auction and we were delighted that the final figure came in above the house’s retail value,” says Mrs Herrick.

“We hope our contribution of $2040 to the Breast Cancer Foundation will in some small way help those battling the disease and their families. The whole tour was a rewarding experience for us,” she concludes.

Winter Gardenz supplies a variety of greenhouses. They cater for everything from a small urban section to a large lifestyle block. The greenhouses are suitable for growing tomatoes in winter, seedlings, orchids and flowers or native trees. The ‘pinkhouse’ is known as a Full Bloom 8x7 Greenhouse. It is 2.4m by 2.2m and retails for $1999.
