Final five fight for Festival fame

WILLIAM MACE

The final awards show of the Cannes Lions has a sprinkling of likely Kiwi contenders, again from Colenso BBDO and DDB.

In the Film Craft category Auckland production house Flying Fish is nominated in the Production Design section for its "In With The New" clip for Colenso and Vodafone.

Thick As Thieves and DDB are shortlisted in the Editing section for the "60 Things in 60 Seconds" spot for My Sky, which can be seen here in director Leo Woodhead's portfolio.

Also in the running for an Editing award is DDB and Robber's Dog's "Milk Run" spot for Volkswagen.

Who needs the Cannes Lions?

WILLIAM MACE

BIG BUSINESS: News Corporation's chief operating officer James Murdoch [left] debates the advertising environment with WPP's Sir Martin Sorrell [middle] and Dreamworks Animation chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg on stage at Cannes.
OPINION:

Cannes is a wonderland - from the beachfront loungers to the off-shore super yachts and five-star hotels along Promenade de la Croisette, the place is humming with activity all day, every day.

It is the summer festival season - the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity comes hot on the heels of the Cannes Film Festival and the Formula One Grand Prix just up the coast at Monte Carlo.

But the French Riviera isn't just a micro-climate in meteorological terms; its status as a playground of the rich and famous inevitably means it has a degree of insulation to the economic weathering that plagues more industrialised regions.
