TARANAKI

Concerns have been raised with South Taranaki Police after the burglary of a rural property involved 10 high powered firearms being stolen.

Between 8am and 8pm on New Years Day a rural property on the eastern side of the Pohokura Saddle, Ohura Rd, was burgled. The firearms were securely stored in an Arms safe which the offenders managed to lever open.

The offenders have left the address with the firearms and also took a green Daihatsu Terios, which was abandoned further down the road at Te Wera Camp Track.

Police are seeking any information about suspicious people or vehicles in the area. In particular a dark blue or black stationwagon which was seen parked in the vicinity of the burgled address at the time, or any sightings of the green Daihatsu Terios.

Anyone with information should contact Stratford Police Station on 06 765 8860 or Sgt Taikato 0272 957396. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
