‘Course Related Costs’ is a pitch-black new comedy presented by The Outfit Theatre Company, as a part of their annual Factory Floor development season, and it’s set to takeover The Basement Studio at the end of the May. The world premiere of the first full-length play by talented comedic actor and Outfit Theatre ensemble member Colin Garlick, ‘Course Related Costs’ takes a unique and satirical look at the lives of three Kiwi students in the current financial climate.

Being a student can be tough. After all, there's only so much time you can spend drinking, surfing, and messing around with your mates, all the while keeping Mum convinced that you're a star pupil. Not to mention the always dire financial situation. What the hell do you do for cash when your course related costs money runs out? How do you afford that slab of Double Brown and ounce of Coro Gold then?

For flatmates Pete, Monty and AJ the answer couldn't be more obvious. Why not get some use out of their developing chemistry and entrepreneurial skills, and cook up Auckland's best ever batch of methamphetamine! Seems simple enough. It’s Reservoir Dogs meets Pineapple Express.

The Outfit Theatre Company, are now often regarded as one of Auckland's top professional theatre companies, comfortably presenting a full season of work side-by-side with the biggest names in the industry. Over the last 4 years the critically-acclaimed company have gained a reputation for fast, fresh and explosive ensemble theatre. Shows like ‘The Sex Show’, ‘A Criminal Christmas’, and ‘Boys’ Life’ have exploded onto Auckland stages and created a cult-like following amongst intrepid audiences looking for a bit of adventure.

The Factory Floor season is Outfit Theatre’s annual development initiative. Initiated in 2011 with ‘Love After Dark’, The Factory Floor is designed to give Outfit Theatre’s ensemble actors the opportunity to expand their creative skills and to give new emerging performers the opportunity to work with, and within, the Outfit Theatre’s ensemble. It’s perhaps this commitment to fostering exciting new talent that has seen Outfit Theatre quickly rise from humble independent ‘loft’ theatre to main-season billings in both The Aotea Centre and Auckland’s Town Hall.

‘Course Related Costs’ features a host of regular Outfit ensemble actors, including Joel Herbert, Chris Tempest and Jacqui Nauman, who are perhaps now more recognisable as their on-screen characters from television shows like Shortland Street or Go Girls. These seasoned performers will take to the stage alongside relative new-comers, and this mix is the perfect way to introduce some of Auckland’s most promising new actors to the world.
