New chair and members of National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women (NACEW) appointed

Traci Houpapa has been appointed Chair of the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women (NACEW) and Galia BarHava-Monteith has been appointed Deputy Chair, Women’s Affairs Minister Jo Goodhew announced today.

Mrs Goodhew also announced the appointment of Dr Airini and Norah Barlow as new members of NACEW.

NACEW is an independent advisory body to the Minister of Women’s Affairs on matters related to women’s employment. Since its formation in 1967, NACEW has been instrumental in influencing changes to legislation and policy that have enhanced women’s employment in New Zealand.

The new NACEW members join existing members Susan Peterson, Ranjna Patel, Barbara Burton, Suzanne McNabb and Lynette Olsthoorn.

“Congratulations to Traci and Galia on their increased responsibilities and to the new members on their appointments. I look forward to working with NACEW on women’s employment issues,” said Mrs Goodhew.

Traci Houpapa is co-owner of THS & Associates Limited, a consulting firm providing professional advice, business planning and organisational development to the public and private sector. Traci is the first woman Chair of the Federation of Māori Authorities (FoMA).

Galia BarHava-Monteith is a co-founder and Director of Professionelle which is dedicated to researching, understanding and addressing the needs of all professional career women in New Zealand.

Dr Airini is the founder and head of the University of Auckland’s School of Critical Studies in Education. She is a member of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Board, the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO's Education Subcommission, and the BEST Pacific Institute of Education Advisory Board.

Norah Barlow is Chief Executive and Managing Director of Summerset Holdings Ltd, the third largest operator and the second largest developer of retirement villages in New Zealand.
