James Squire, the convict father of Australian craft beer (and 11 children!), has released three delicious new drops for NZ to enjoy (not literally of course, he would be 258 years old if he were still alive!).

This fruity, nutty and aromatic trio has, however, been made in the distinct, handcrafted style that Mr. Squire was famous for. A cunning attention to detail and quality Australian hops are what defines the refreshing James Squire range of beers.

You’ll now be able to enjoy:

The Chancer – This golden ale is a delicious number with a tropical fruit aroma, restrained bitterness, mild carbonation and a dry finish.

One Fifty Lashes – This refreshing drop is fruity, with hints of passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus. Named after the sentence James received for stealing medicines – five pounds and three hundred lashes – “one hundred and fifty now, and the remainder when able to bear it.”

Nine Tales – Nine Tales is an amber ale that’s hand-crafted with distinctive hops and pale and crystal malts for a long, slightly nutty, finish.

A spot of history

At the start of the 19th Century, the Australian Governor was concerned about the level of corruption spread by rum so he began to officially endorse the brewing of beer. James Squire successfully grew the first Australian hops plants and opened a brewery at Kissing Point and a tavern between Sydney and Parramatta. Today, the James Squire Brewery brings his legacy to life by continuing to brew beers in his name, with the same dedication to quality and desire to pioneer the best of flavours.

James Squire is available in 6-packs (RRP $18.99) at selected supermarkets and liquor outlets from October 1.
