Kia ora, I’m Wayne Brown and I seek your support for  another three years as Mayor to continue lifting the  economic performance of the Council and the Far North.

We’ve spearheaded a campaign, along with local Iwi, businesses and community groups, to keep ‘local government local’ with better Maori engagement so Far North decisions are made in the Far North, not from Whangarei or central government.

Local government reorganisation is both an opportunity and a threat. Along with 86% of you, I strongly support having our own voice with our own Far North Unitary Authority. John Carter says ‘let’s put the local back into local government’, yet he seeks a larger provincial council centred in Whangarei which I believe will inevitably lead to the demise of our small towns and the Far North paying off the big debts from our neighbouring councils. This makes us just one of their Community Boards.
