“Build things from the grass roots up, limiting the risk to yourself and others. Follow the vision and listen to your intuition. Keep believing and be diligent and determined.”
That is the advice that Miranda Caird gives to young artists wanting to make a career from their work.

In June, Canterbury and Terrace Downs Resort, are again blessed to host one of New Zealand’s top contemporary artists – Miranda Caird.
Miranda Caird is a prolific, full time Artist, based at Whale Bay, Raglan. Her work has found its way into private collections around the world, both with off shore Kiwis and visitors to New Zealand.
In 2009, she was interviewed for nationwide Japanese television, with a viewing audience of 8 million people. In 2011 and 2012 she was included in group exhibitions held by Camden Gallery Of Fine Art at Camden Civic Centre, Camden, NSW, Australia. Miranda has been recognised by an impressive sales history and following for her work.
Miranda’s series of Landscapes invites viewers to look again, more closely, at the richness of the world around them. They evoke the landscape's hidden elements creating feelings, emotions and associations with these images for us.

She is most interested in events that have shaped the landscape from ancient times, when Zealandia broke away from Gwondana Land, through to the recent events of human habitation. She speaks about past and present in her work, creating striking pieces with a distinctly South Pacific feel.
Pattern and movement are strong elements in Miranda’s work. A variety of brush strokes, are used in both opaque and translucent layers, bringing vibrancy to the work. Clean lines define forms and provide clarity.
Through the painting process, the Miranda has managed to reconstruct the experience of being in a space and moment, by extracting an image from the photo reference through the use of patterns and movement.

“Art's impact derives not as much from meanings but rather from the powerful draw of associations people make in their subconscious mind and Miranda achieves this through her amazing paintings.” Rachael Inch commented.
"Southern Slice" will evoke profound personal and emotional associations in viewers which will invite them to develop a deep and long-lasting relationship with Miranda’s work.
Her key statement about her work is “Painting is more about narrowing down the infinite, than it is about coming up with an idea.”
Terrace Downs Art exhibitions feature a unique opening night where you are able to dine with the artists and enjoy great company, a delicious Buffet, prepared by Terrace Downs wonderful chefs and wonderful music from the soulful Kris Trousselot on the piano.
