Two days of spectacular offroad racing action with an alpine backdrop: Twizel stands out among the seven rounds of the 2014 New Zealand Offroad Racing Championship as one of the most exciting and scenic races in the sport.

On April 19 and 20 the tiny town of Twizel will come alive to the sound of high powered offroad race engines as the southern section of the championship begins.
The action starts with short course racing on the club's course west of the township, where racers go wheel to wheel in class heats for championship points. Racing starts at 11 am, and there are 3 heats of 5 laps for each class plus an all in feature of 15 laps.
The following day the racing switches to endurance mode for a 250 km race on an extended course, starting at 11 am.
All racing is on the alluvial flats and glacial moraine soils of the McKenzie, bringing special challenges to the drivers in the short course and enduro events, where sharp frost-cracked rocks abound.
