Last weekend saw the coming together of the NZ Youth girls squad who are training towards the World Championships being held in Perth, Australia from December 1-9th 2012. The team has been sponsored by Nestle and enjoyed healthy morning breakfasts at the Millennium Institute.

The girls have also just been signed up as one of only two teams in New Zealand who are fully sponsored by Under Armour. Each member of the final team will receive a full uniform to include some of the latest gear not yet released into the NZ market. Co-Owner of Under Armour Mr John Da Silva said he is proud to be associated with a team of very motivated girls who have been together for the past five years working towards these World Championships. “There are 91 days to go before the girls take on the world and Under Armour will be there with them throughout the event”.

The build up towards the Championships in Perth will see USA and Canada Youth Women’s teams come to Auckland on the 23rd November and play in the “Southern Cross Cup” before heading to Perth. This group of girls have travelled to all corners of the World in the past few years beating Hungary Youth Women, Canadian age group teams, Australia Youth and U20 age group teams so they are well versed in understanding what it takes to be the best.

The girls are thrilled to have just signed up the prestigious company Optimal Sports where they will have all their land and swim training sessions assessed on line and ongoing feedback from both Optimal Sports and their coaching staff of Richard Claridge and Michael Buck. The NZ Water Polo Women’s Convenor, Sharon Geary said this is a giant step forward for NZ Water Polo having all training sessions available on line. The girls are able to contact their team mates and coaches anytime. We will trial this and hopefully see it brought into every age group within the NZ programme over the next couple of years. The girls programmes are tailored  by hand building a training plan designed specifically to meet our players needs. Optimal Sports work with our girls to build specific Strength and Conditioning programmes to ensure our players are doing the right type of training to peak at the right time of the season. Included on the website is a training diary, Nutritional diary, Goal Setting plan and Strength and Conditioning Programme.
