CANTERBURY

On Sunday the 18th of November, The Quarter Pounder will see men of all ages, all shapes and sizes running/shuffling/sweating/grunting three loops of South Hagley Park, to absolute glory.
The Quarter Pounder (TQP): 1/4 marathon - 10.5km - is aimed at the average Christchurch male who may need a little push to get up and do some exercise. Involvement is the main goal, with impetus on taking stock of physical well being, with the hope of working towards TQP and gaining confidence to take on more exercise and other events in the future.

“There are running/biking events around for women which are great, but not a lot for men. It’s good to have a realistic goal and 10.5km is certainly achievable for a fella with little fitness,” event director Morgan Williams says, “Ladies are encouraged to come and cheer on their man!”

The Quarter Pounder will be supporting Movember with profits donated to the cause: raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men. Doctors will be on site taking blood pressures, measuring BMI and other appropriate tests, as well as sport massage therapists and even an ambassador from Canterbury Men’s Centre.

Williams reiterates: “I just want guys to give this a go, to have a bit of fun. It’s not about winning, it’s about having a crack at it and really thinking hard about how they’re treating their body, because it’s the only one they’ve got.”
