World Champion Melanie Burke defends title in Switzerland
Melanie Burke, Defending World Champion Duathlete, heads to Zofingen, Switzerland on 2 September 2012 to defend her title. She anticipates the 10km run, 150km cycle followed by an uphill 30km run in the picturesque Swiss mountains will be a tough but “doable” challenge.
Melanie, burst onto the world duathlon scene in 2011 with no reputation or title to defend. “No one knew me, or thought I was a serious threat’ she explains. “I got away on the bike, and didn’t draw that much attention. This year I think they will be keeping me close”.
Locally it’s a different story, Melanie amazingly, holds NZ titles across 4 different sports: cycling, rowing, running, and duathlon. On returning from the duathlon World Championships Melanie is targeting yet another national title, when she sets her sights on her new goal, triathlon.
