While driving around New Zealand is a great way to get around, there are a few things that are different to the rest of the world when it comes to driving down under, and Snap Rentals provide some helpful resources to ensure visitors stay safe while driving in New Zealand. They have provided a PDF which can be downloaded to ensure visitors can read and fully understand New Zealand’s Road Rules before driving, and they also feature a video on their website at http://www.snaprentals.co.nz which is available in English, French, German and Chinese.

Snap Rentals’ quick tips in brief are, number one and most important, keep left! Give way at intersections, no left turn at a red light, do not use a hand-held mobile phone or operate the GPS while driving, do not drive when tired, share the road with cyclists, do not drink and drive, keep to the speed limit. The open road speed limit is 100 km/hr and generally the road speed limit in urban areas is 50 km/hr.

All passengers must wear seatbelts at all times, must hold a current and valid driver’s licence, and an English translation, if applicable, must be held at all times when driving. Do not overtake or cross a solid yellow line on your side, follow the arrows when approaching one-lane bridges, be cautious around farm animals on the road, slow down on gravel roads. Slow down when approaching rail crossings, follow the signs/lights and cross only when indicated it is safe to do so.

As the Snap Rentals team say, “We’re low on fuss and high on value. We want to get you behind the wheel so you can get out and do whatever it is you’re here to do. Snap Rentals is the fastest growing rental car company in New Zealand. As long as you’ve got a licence, we’ll give you the keys. We have over a decade of experience in the rental car game. This means we know what you want. Snap offers it all from new cars through to the cheap New Zealand runabout. Feel free to ask any questions about your hire. We are here to help.”
