With parcels and boxes of new decorations arriving at the Queenstown Lakes District Council over the last few weeks, the elves are poised to wave the Christmas stick, QLDC arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said.

A lot of preparation and effort has gone into wrapping the district up in the Christmas Spirit this year, she said.

Arrowtown would be festooned in fairy lights and giant Christmas wreaths, while Queenstown would enjoy new Christmas flags and ‘live’ Christmas trees on the village green, Earnslaw Park and in the Mall and Wanaka would sparkle with new street decorations.

The giant Christmas star would once again beam out from the Shotover Street Wellingtonia and the Arrowtown Christmas tree would be decked in gold decorations, befitting a town ‘borne of gold’.

“There are some real treats in store, with the Remarkables Christmas extravaganza at the Events Centre, the ‘living church’ carol service at Wanaka and the Christmas carols at Arrowtown,” Mrs Maxwell said.

“With all the deliveries of decorations in hand, it really is starting to get exciting. We’re looking forward to taking Christmas out into the community,” Mrs Maxwell said.
