Christmas/New Year 2012/13

Marlborough District Council, Blenheim office is closed from 5.00 pm Friday 21 December 2012 and reopens on Thursday 3 January 2013 at 8.00 am. Library and transfer station hours over the holiday period are listed below or you can call 03 520 7400 at anytime.

Safer Communities Marlborough will be closed from 5.00 pm Thursday 20 December until 8.30 am 10 January 2013.

Bus Service

Christmas Holiday Period

Passengers are advised that during the Christmas holiday period the Blenheim Bus Service will NOT operate on the following statutory public holidays:

  • Tuesday 25 December 2012 (Christmas Day holiday)
  • Wednesday 26 December 2012 (Boxing Day holiday)
  • Tuesday 1 January 2013 (New Year's Day holiday)
  • Wednesday 2 January 2013 (day after New Year's Day holiday)

Normal services will operate on all other days (Monday to Saturday).

Kerbside Rubbish Bag and Recycling Collections (Blenheim and Picton)

Blenheim

Wednesday 26 December 2012 collection will take place on Thursday 27 December 2012.
Wednesday 2 January 2013 collection will take place Thursday 3 January 2013.

Picton

Tuesday 25 December 2012 collection will take place on Monday 24 December 2012.

Tuesday 1 January 2013 collection will take place on Monday 31 December 2012.

Fire Season

A Restricted Fire Season is in place until further notice for the Marlborough District Council area south of the Wairau River including the area south of the Diversion, and for the Urban Marlborough District Council areas of Blenheim, Seddon and Ward:

1.   Burning permits are required for all fires in the Open Air during a Restricted Fire Season except for the following:
(a)   Gas fired barbecues provided they are positioned at least 2 metres from any dry materials which could catch on fire.
(b)   Approved incinerators incorporating a chimney and spark arrestor to stop sparks from escaping from the incinerator.
2.   In accordance with the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 for the Marlborough District Council area south of the Wairau River including the area south of the Diversion, and in accordance with Section 806.1 of the Marlborough District Council Bylaw 2010 for the Urban Marlborough District Council areas of Blenheim, Seddon and Ward, persons wishing to light a fire in the Open Air must obtain a fire permit:

PROVIDED THAT NO SUCH FIRES SHALL BE LIT OR REMAIN ALIGHT DURING HIGH OR GUSTY WINDS OR WHEN HIGH OR GUSTY WINDS ARE FORECAST.

3.   A total ban on all fires on any day or days of extreme fire hazard as broadcast under Section 20 of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 or Section 807.1 of the Marlborough District Council Bylaw 2010 takes precedence over this notice.
4.   In all cases a person lighting a fire within these provisions shall remain in attendance at the fire until it is fully extinguished.
5.   It shall not be a legal defence against claims for damage caused by any fire lit during a restricted fire season or an open fire season with or without a fire permit.
6.   All fires burning without a fire permit before this restriction came into force will be illegal and will now require a fire permit.

Burning permits for all areas South of the Wairau River (including the Urban Areas of Blenheim, Seddon and Ward) can be obtained by phoning the Marlborough District Council on Ph: 03 520 7400 during normal business hours only.

Please be aware it could take up to five working days to have a Fire Permit issued in some circumstances.
