Santa Search heralds start of annual tradition

Families of all ages are taking part in Canterbury Museum’s annual Great Museum Santa Search this year, much to the delight of Museum staff who say the event has become a special tradition in Christchurch.

The Santa Search began on Saturday 1 December and has already brought many families back to the Museum just to take part.

“Every year we are seeing familiar faces take part in the competition,” says Canterbury Museum’s Education Communicator Anthony Hennig.

“Visitors from as far away as Australia are also making sure they visit the Museum and enter the Santa Search competition. The event really is becoming a new Christmas tradition for some families both locally and overseas.”

The Great Museum Santa Search has been running for at least ten years and it has grown in popularity. Mr Hennig says this year’s competition is the best yet.

“As always the Santa’s have found new places to hide – they are never in the same place twice,” Mr Hennig says.

“It will definitely be a fun-filled activity to do with the kids during the summer holidays.  Be sure to allow 1 to 2 hours so you can have a really good look and enjoy the Museum exhibits as you go,” says Mr Hennig.

As for some inside advice that might make the hunt easier, Mr Hennig says to keep your eyes open.

“All I can say is, don’t forget to look up’ Anthony says.

To enter the competition, count the Santa’s you find, fill in an entry form and post it in the box provided in the Museum foyer.  The first correct entry drawn after 3 February 2013 will win a great prize.
