People in South Taranaki and Inglewood can ride for free on Taranaki Regional Council once-a-week bus services next week (18-21 December).

The promotion applies to SouthLink services connecting Hawera with Waverley, Patea, Manaia and Opunake, and the weekly Opunake-New Plymouth and Inglewood-New Plymouth services. Booked passengers will have priority over casual users, so pre-booking is essential.

“It’s a thank-you to regular passengers for their support, and we hope it also may encourage others to try the services,” says the Taranaki Regional Council’s Transport Services Manager, Chris Clarke.

“Return services from Hawera to Waverley and to Opunake, and the return service from New Plymouth to Opunake, will depart an hour later than normal, giving people more time in town.”

The free services are:

Tuesday 18 December

  • Manaia-Hawera and return. Bookings and information: Hawera Taxis, ph 0800 278 7171

Thursday 20 December

  • Waverley-Hawera and return (departing Hawera 2.30pm). Bookings and information: Hawera Taxis, ph 0800 278 7171
