Residents and ratepayers are being asked for their feedback on the future management of Arrowtown’s reserves.

Of the 33 reserves in the wider Arrowtown area only two, Buckingham Green and the Nairn Street Recreation Reserve have existing management plans. Queenstown Lakes District Council’s parks manager Gordon Bailey said the time was ripe to look at an overarching strategy.

“Given the large number of reserves and the small size of many of them, it’s more practical to draft a holistic plan than formulate a specific management plan for each one,” Mr Bailey said.

“By doing so, we’ll be able to approach planning for the future of these reserves in a more strategic way.”

The management plan was intended to be a community document and would provide certainty around the purpose of each reserve and what it was used for.

“There has been a lot of growth in Arrowtown over recent years in terms of resident and visitor numbers,” Mr Bailey said.

‘This in turn has placed pressure on local reserves in terms of who uses them and how they’re used. A management plan will make sure that the community gets the best result from these facilities.”

Council is seeking suggestions from the community as to what they would like to see included in the plan. These suggestions will help shape a draft plan which will be opened up for public submissions next year.

Feedback can be emailed to services@qldc.govt.nz or mailed to Arrowtown Reserves, Private Bag 50072, Queenstown. Feedback closes on Friday 3 February 2013.
