Helen McNaughten, General Manager of Napier Kindergartens, is delighted to announce her Board’s intention to open an early childhood centre in 2013, at its property in Freyberg St, Wairoa.

From the community survey undertaken by Napier Kindergartens in September there is a strong level of demand for a kindergarten service that caters to children aged 2 to 5 years, so that is what the service will offer for up to 40 children.

Wairoa parents and caregivers were very clear that they wanted more choice for early childhood education in Wairoa, they valued high quality teaching and they were looking to access longer hours. This demand for places, coupled with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Developments’ initiatives around early childhood education participation means the timing couldn’t be better.

Mrs McNaughten is excited about the project – their vision is to create a high quality centre with the involvement and support of the community, a place they can call their own. We see this project as a wonderful opportunity to create additional employment for Wairoa as well as a new service which will work closely and collegially with Wairoa Kindergarten, sharing resources, skills and knowledge.

To restore the building to meet current building code requirements and re establish the playground will mean a significant investment of Napier Kindergartens’ resources. Work will begin early in the New Year to establish the actual costs of the building refit before the Board gives its final approval to go ahead. Work on the project will be able to commence as soon as the green light has been received from the Board and the necessary consent requirements have been met.

We’re sure various members of Wairoa Te Hapori Haumaru will have an active interest in our establishment of a new centre and will help us along the way.  It’s important to us that we meet the needs of Wairoa families and offer the same level of quality teaching and outcomes as Wairoa Kindergarten does.

Future press releases will be made as we progress with this project.
