New Crown directors announced

Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce has today announced the appointment of three new Crown company directors.

Lizzie Chambers and Dr Barry O’Neil will join the Board of the New Zealand Forest Research Institute Ltd (trading as Scion) and Phil Norman will Join the Board of the Research and Education Advanced Network NZ Ltd (REANNZ).

“The new directors bring a valuable range of scientific knowledge, commercial skills and governance experience to their roles on the Scion and REANNZ boards” Mr Joyce says.

Lizzie Chambers is a Wellington-based businesswoman with experience in the New Zealand carbon market as Managing Director of New Zealand’s first online trading marketplace in the Emissions Trading Scheme.  Her expertise also includes finance, investment banking, regulatory economics and corporate valuation.

Dr Barry O’Neil is the Mount Maunganui-based Chief Executive of Kiwifruit Vine Health, which is responding to the vine disease Psa-V.  He has deep understanding of New Zealand’s environmental and biosecurity requirements from senior management and leadership roles he held both in New Zealand and offshore. Dr O’Neil was formerly New Zealand’s Chief Veterinary Officer and was President of the World Organisation for Animal Health.

Phil Norman of Auckland is an experienced commercial director with expertise in the technology sector, having held a range of operational, managerial, leadership and advisory roles in New Zealand and internationally. His current and former directorships include privately owned and listed companies and he has previously served as Chair of the New Zealand Venture Capital Association.
