New members appointed to EECA

Energy and Resources Minister Phil Heatley has announced three appointments to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.

Tom Campbell has been appointed Chair of the Authority. Mr Campbell has had a long-standing interest in improving energy efficiency from roles at Rio Tinto, including as Managing Director (NZ and UK) of Comalco and General Manager of the Tiwai Smelter.

He is Chair of Crown research institute GNS Science and a director of Todd Corporation, PowerNet, Electricity Invercargill and the New Zealand Standards Council.

Elena Trout has been appointed a member of the Authority. Ms Trout has held a number of positions in the transport, utilities and energy sectors over the past 30 years.

She is currently a member of the Electricity Authority, and a director of Northland Port Corporation and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. She is a former director of Transpower.

Mr Campbell and Ms Trout have both been appointed for three-year terms from 1 February 2013.

Mark Oldfield has been reappointed as a member of the Authority for an 18-month term.

The role of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority, as set out in section 21 of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2000, is to encourage, promote and support energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy resources in New Zealand.
