The Tasman Skatepark Tour will expand this year, with eight competitions scheduled for January 2013 and more than $5,000 of prizes on offer.

Tour organiser and old-school boardrider Paul McConachie says the tour has grown more and more popular due to the skill of the competitors.

“It’s a premiere showcase of the extreme sport talent of local youth,” he says.

“The tricks and skills on display are phenomenal.”

Competitors will be vying for a slice of over $5,000 worth of prizes, generously provided by exclusive tour sponsors; Cheapskates and Village Cycles.

The tour expands this year to include Wakefield, with Whitby Way carpark hosting a morning of skate and scooter competitions, made possible thanks to the Cheapskates’ mobile skatepark.  Nelson’s Neale Park Skatepark has also been added to the tour.

Skate, BMX and scooter open jam competitions with junior grom, senior pro and open veteran categories.

The tour’s championship leaderboard format means riders across all ages and disciplines compete for competition points from placings at respective heats.

Accompanying the smoking hot thrills and spills of the park, will be pumping tunes from DJ Mix Masta Mootree. The Tasman Skatepark Tour is a free community event.
